Overview:
Creation of a Community Garden in the City of Burbank that will expand on and inspire the use of gardening as a way of maintaining health, encouraging neuroplasticity, and rehabilitation for those in need of a healthy environment. This helps build a relationship amongst members of the community through a shared interest, along with promoting little movements towards improving oneself with gardening which can lead to a more successful mental and daily flow.
Planning from the first meeting on June 8, 2023:
(Grace Glover) Reach out to Burbank Highschool Principal Ms. Markussen for permission to use a large plot of unused land for our first gardening spot --> If not, contact district head John Paramo for further permission. --> If this does not work, reach out to Burbank City Council for an appeal.
UNI Future Together is a 100% student-funded and run organization meaning that we must fund these projects through grants and sponsorships. Gardening can cost lots of money, meaning that we will reach out to organizations such as Big Green, Hanmi Bank, LA Garden Council, Open Bank, and Gain Credit Union along with local Burbank businesses for funding / sponsorships. Big Green is especially a top choice as they are a nonprofit that specializes in fundraisers for city garden projects along with teaching how to properly take care of one.
Research all costs after learning the size of our property along with gaining information from Big Green about gardening for budgeting and planning of garden logistics.
To be Determined!!!
Good Luck to All!!!
